It’s that time of the year again. Teams at the top are gearing up for the postseason, while the teams at the bottom are looking even further ahead, into June and July.
While it is unfortunate and can hurt to surrender hope for your team in February, the reality is the gap between the haves and the have-nots in the NBA is wide and disheartening. Sometimes it’s better to think about the future, and what could be, who might be. That’s the goal of this draft board— to give the have-nots something to enjoy and look forward to.
This class has been branded a poor class, with a lack of heroes and headliners. Adversely, this class may be one of the best of this decade. When there is less star-branded talent, teams tend to go for fit over said talent. This allows players to go into the perfect situations for their individual needs, and develop into their projected ceilings and sometimes beyond.
For example, the 2020 draft class was branded similarly. It was a “role-players’ draft”, according to most pundits. As it turns out, 2021 has been one of the very best classes in recent memory. It produced multiple All-Star-caliber talents, such as LaMelo Ball, Anthony Edwards, Tyrese Haliburton, Desmond Bane, Devin Vassell, Tyrese Maxey, Immanuel Quickley, Jaden McDaniels and many more. Each of these players has one thing in common— they fit in perfectly with their current team, almost as if their front offices developed them in a lab.

LOTTERY
1- NIKOLA TOPIC
Position: PG
Age: 18
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 201 lbs
From: KK Mega Basket (Serbia)
19.1 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 7.1 APG, 1.1 SPG, 0.2 BPG
Pro Comparison: Josh Giddey
Former Rank: 4
Analysis: Tough, strong point guard/combo guard whose low center of gravity gives him the size and power to take on the defense. Plays with his head high and has excellent passing vision and instincts Topic is a below-the-rim scorer who absorbs contact in the lane.
Topic is a creative finisher who scores around the rim and has an incredible ability to penetrate the lane, even though he lacks elite burst. He has a great looking three-point stroke and keeps the defense honest. He can play left or right and finishes with either hand.

2- ALEXANDRE SARR
Position: PF
Age: 19
Height: 7’1”
Weight: 217
From: Perth Wildcats (NBL)
19.7 PPG, 9.3 RPG, 2.1 APG, 0.9 SPG, 2.8 BPG
Pro Comparison: Deandre Ayton
Former Rank: 2
Analysis: Definitely looks like the best center in the draft. His ability to stay with wing players on the perimeter is really valuable. He showcased his long-range shooting very well in the Ignite Invitational games. Something else that doesn’t get talked about a lot was his passing in transition. As soon as he caught the ball, his eyes were up and looking to pass down court to the open man and he looked confident in his passing. Didn’t see this coming after his play in FIBA (didn’t think he was bad, but he didn’t seem to rise above the rest as he is now). Could definitely go No. 1, but has to remain consistent.

3- MATAS BUZELIS
Position: SF
Age: 19
Height: 6’11”
Weight: 195 lbs
From: G-League Ignite
15.8 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 2.0 APG, 1.2 SPG, 2.0 BPG
Pro Comparison: Franz Wagner
Former Rank: 1
Analysis: He is not going to be a superstar or even a Franz Wagner-level creator, but he should be a 6’10” shooter at a minimum, which has a lot of value in itself. He’s not a black hole in other areas, just not great, so if he could develop any of his handle, playmaking, finishing, etc. then he could be a very solid player. He has arguably the best chance of going number one purely due to his floor being so much higher than the rest of his class. That’s not to discount his ceiling though, as in an ideal scenario he could very well become an All-Star.
4- CODY WILLIAMS
Position: SF
Age: 19
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 195 lbs
From: Colorado
16.0 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 2.2 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.9 BPG
Pro Comparison: Jabari Smith Jr
Former Rank: 16
Analysis: He’s looking like a legit lottery pick. He might be on the skinny side but he can gradually add bulk and his height means he’s a threat on both ends of the court. Seems to have a nice three-point range too and isn’t a volume shooter from that range so seems to have a nice shot selection.
5- JUAN NUNEZ
Position: PG
Age: 19
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 190 lbs
From: Ratiopharm Ulm (Spain)
16.0 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 7.9 APG, 2.6 SPG, 0.1 BPG
Pro Comparison: Lonzo Ball
Former Rank: 3
Analysis: Nunez is undoubtedly my favorite prospect in this draft. A European prodigy who has played professionally since the tender age of 15, he is the embodiment of the modern point guard. His ability to read and play the floor with little-to-no mistakes at such a young age is remarkable. While at times streaky, he can light you up from three-point range at a moment’s notice. On the defensive end though is where he rises up my board dramatically. His ruthless and relentless pressure on the ball handler is a trait that can’t be taught. He possesses this burning fire and passion for winning, and he will stop at nothing to achieve that.
Nunez could be the next iteration of European guards that dominate the league. Think Luka, Rubio, Parker. GM’s will look back at this draft and think “Damn, how did we pass on this kid?”.

6- RON HOLLAND
Position: SF/PF
Age: 19
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 200 lbs
From: G-League Ignite
22.0 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 3.3 APG, 2.6 SPG, 1.3 BPG
Pro Comparison: Jonathan Kuminga
Former Rank: 6
Analysis: The jumpshot — when he has time — looks pretty solid compared to other project wings from the past drafts. A good comparison for Holland is last years top-five selection, Ausar Thompson, minus the physical tools of course. Like Ausar, he’s going to put counting stats on the board. The amount of ‘stocks’ that each can get jump out at you from the box score, and you can’t undersell Holland’s defense. Despite this, he’s definitely going to be rough around the edges at points. Is there enough upside there where he can be a top-five pick in this draft? Yes, but I can see why others may think not.
7- ROBERT DILLINGHAM
Position: PG
Age: 18
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 176 lbs
From: Kentucky
23.2 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 5.9 APG, 1.8 SPG, 0.1 BPG
Pro Comparison: Brandon Jennings
Former Rank: 5
Analysis: Dillingham has a remarkable feel for controlling the horizontal space. The Kentucky product possesses a unique feel for space and time. Dillingham combines this awareness with a great burst of speed to get separation. He’s a highly confident, sharp-shooter from the deep. He has a great jump shot going to the right. He pulls up with great poise in the mid-range going both ways. Likes to shoot off the dribble going left when he can’t get the rim.

8- REED SHEPPARD
Position: PG/SG
Age: 19
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 197 lbs
From: Kentucky
14.9 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 5.3 APG, 3.5 SPG, 0.9 BPG
Pro Comparison: Devin Booker
Former Rank: 14
Analysis: Lightning fast (and excellent) decision-maker. He has so many touch-passes every game. He’s not gonna rise up and dunk it — although he has a dunk in his bag — but he’s got a good drop shot and he’s shooting like 78% on shots within three feet of the rim.
9- ZACCHARIE RISACHER
Position: SF/SG
Age: 18
Height: 6’9”
Weight: 204 lbs
From: JL Bourg (France)
18.0 PPG, 5.4 RPG, 1.6 APG, 1.6 SPG, 0.6 BPG
Pro Comparison: Franz Wagner
Former Rank: 10
Analysis: Risacher’s wingspan is 6’10, but he’s more than that. He’s a mobile forward with elite foot speed, and his potential is off the charts. His jumpshot is technically sound already. The areas for improvement are being faster with passing reads and building strength in his frame so he can eventually defend bigger 4s, or even 5s and finish through contact.
10- IZAN ALMANSA
Position: PF
Age: 19
Height: 6’10”
Weight: 216 lbs
From: G-League Ignite
14.2 PPG, 9.8 RPG, 2.5 APG, 1.1 SPG, 1.2 BPG
Pro Comparison: Alperen Sengun
Former Rank: 7
Analysis: He’s a great finisher at the rim, can post-up, and can handle the ball a bit. He’s okay at rebounding and has a good motor but he’s more of a below-the-rim finisher which is worrying for a big, especially at his size. Average length at best (7’1 wingspan) for a big man. Non-shooter at this point but he has shown solid touch from the free-throw line. He’s pretty agile but not someone who can be called switchable at the moment. Doesn’t offer much rim protection either. I need to see more playmaking reps before I fully judge that part of his game, but from what I’ve seen he projects to be the next iteration of playmaking big’s from Europe (think Jokic, Sengun, Giannis).

11- JA’KOBE WALTER
Position: SG/SF
Age: 19
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 180 lbs
From: Baylor
17.1 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 1.8 APG, 1.3 SPG, 0.2 BPG
Pro Comparison: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
Former Rank: 8
Analysis: On the offensive end, he plays at a very good pace. It seems like he never slows down. His main strength is his shooting and his shot creation. He has a very smooth release with good percentages. He’s a good off-the-catch shooter and a very good pull-up midrange shooter. He gets to his middy by attacking closeouts and isolating. He has good touch as a finisher. At the moment, he is more of a finisher below the rim, but he gets up and finishes over guys. He also possesses the ability to use floaters and acrobatic finishes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7Nqytbm88I?feature=oembed]
12- ISAIAH COLLIER
Position: PG
Age: 19
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 205 lbs
From: USC
19.3 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 5.3 APG, 1.9 SPG, 0.3 BPG
Pro Comparison: Jalen Suggs
Former Rank: 9
Analysis: Collier has a unique set of tools. Standing at 6-foot, Collier has exceptional core strength and wide shoulders. Collier drives the lane with the same ferocity as Derrick Henry. Collier sheds defenders with precise shoulder bumps and maintains contact better than any 19-year old point guard. Collier’s quick first step allows him to penetrate consistently and he’s a frequent foul shooter.
13- DONOVAN CLINGAN
Position: C
Age: 20
Height: 7’0”
Weight: 248 lbs
From: Duke
21.1 PPG, 11.2 RPG, 2.3 APG, 0.9 SPG, 3.6 BPG
Pro Comparison: Walker Kessler
Former Rank: 11
Analysis: The rim protecting drop big archetype is losing favor, but Clingan might be as good as they come within that archetype provided he takes a step forward this season. If he does take a step, the juice is worth the squeeze in terms of letting him anchor your defense. His foot speed and general mobility is startling for a guy his size. Definitely expect him to carve out a solid role in the NBA just by virtue of his defense/rebounding. His touch around the rim isn’t too bad either. If he develops a jump shot or shows more playmaking ability in the short term, he could end up a late lottery pick.
14- STEPHON CASTLE
Position: PG/SG
Age: 19
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 190 lbs
From: UConn
14.6 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 4.0 APG, 2.3 SPG, 1.3 BPG
Pro Comparison: Markelle Fultz
Former Rank: 12
Analysis: He plays a selfless game — even when he has the ball in his hands — and can drive and finish with both hands. Castle also possesses a strong frame with wide shoulders and decent length. He is not the most vertical player but has good body control, pace, speed and balance. His physical advantages could allow him to soar up the board, as his build is quickly becoming the mold of the modern point guard.
REST OF FIRST ROUND
15- CARLTON CARRINGTON
Position: PG/SG
Age: 18
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 190 lbs
From: Pittsburgh
14.0 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 4.6 APG, 0.7 SPG, 0.2 BPG
Pro Comparison: Cade Cunningham
Former Rank: 13
Analysis: Carrington fits what has fast become a must-have for NBA point guards: Size. But when you factor in Carrington’s ball-handling skills, self-aggressiveness and passing vision, it’s hard to ignore the intrigue. Carrington excels when the ball is in his hands and he’s playing off the ball, but there’s more to Carrington than that.
16- RYAN DUNN
Position: SF
Age: 21
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 216 lbs
From: Virginia
11.1 PPG, 9.1 RPG, 1.1 APG, 3.1 SPG, 3.1 BPG
Pro Comparison: Trey Murphy III
Former Rank: 20
Analysis: While his perimeter shooting is excellent, his defensive skills and IQ may be the most intriguing. Dunn has the agility, length and intelligence to make a difference on that end, and he can guard a variety of positions. He can play off or on the ball, and he has the skills to close out and disrupt. He is also a good shot blocker in his own right, as evidenced by his 5.3 block per 100 possessions last season in a small sample.
17- JUSTIN EDWARDS
Position: SF/PF
Age: 19
Height: 6’7”
Weight: 180 lbs
From: Kentucky
14.6 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 1.5 APG, 1.5 SPG, 0.4 BPG
Pro Comparison: Brandon Miller
Former Rank: 15
Analysis: The more I know about him, the more I get torn on him as a prospect. He lacks burst and his finishing is a bit overrated. I don’t have the data to back it up but this 74th percentile finishing looks padded by transition. Expected his shooting splits to be higher, but his stroke still looks elite. He has a high release point, and whilst he is typically streaky, when the shot is falling he looks unstoppable out there, scoring at all three levels with ease.
18- TYRESE PROCTER
Position: PG/SG
Age: 19
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 183 lbs
From: Duke
13.0 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 4.5 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.2 BPG
Pro Comparison: Derrick White
Former Rank: 17
Analysis: I don’t necessarily buy the sure-fire lottery pick hype but he is a first-rounder with lottery upside. He finished last year averaging around 15 in his last 10 games in conference play on good efficiency as a freshman in the ACC. He has NBA PG length and his vision is great, he just needs to fill out. He’s not a guy with massive upside, but should project to be a starting-caliber guard, which in this draft is definitely a pretty strong pick.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85Nrtk8nWxg?feature=oembed]
19- KYLE FILIPOWSKI
Position: C/PF
Age: 20
Height: 7’0”
Weight: 248 lbs
From: Duke
19.9 PPG, 9.7 RPG, 3.3 APG, 1.0 SPG, 2.0 BPG
Pro Comparison: Mark Williams
Former Rank: 18
Analysis: He’s 6’11, doesn’t play a lick of defense by NBA standards, can’t score efficiently at the rim, and is not a great shooter. Filipowski has the physical tools to have a great career in the league, his skills just need to develop to match that. His front-line athleticism is a bit greasy for a big man. He can handle the ball at a decent level, make good passes, and may develop into a good shooter one day.

20- TYLER SMITH
Position: PF/SF
Age: 19
Height: 6’11”
Weight: 224 lbs
From: G-League Ignite
22.4 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 2.4 APG, 1.4 SPG, 1.4 BPG
Pro Comparison: Cedi Osman
Former Rank: 27
Analysis: 6-foot-10, a projectable shooter with a modern wing toolkit and solid defensive end, Smith is a lock to go in the 2024 first round. He has the potential to play a 3-and-D role in the NBA, and his growth as a shooter/shooter and ball handler will increase his ceiling and make him a 3-and-D plus prospect.
21- KEVIN MCCULLAR
Position: SG
Age: 23
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 210 lbs
From: Kansas
19.3 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 4.5 APG, 1.7 SPG, 0.4 BPG
Pro Comparison: Kenrich Williams
Former Rank: 25
Analysis: He gets to where he needs to be, scores through contact and sets up his teammates with both stationary and live dribble passes. He seems to have more control over every possession. He’s had a triple-double in his last five games. He has also been very good on the defensive end, playing a variety of archetypes and stopping ball handlers.

22- KEL’EL WARE
Position: C
Age: 19
Height: 7’0
Weight: 223 lbs
From: Indiana
17.4 PPG, 10.9 RPG, 2.2 APG, 0.9 SPG, 1.8 BPG
Pro Comparison: Tyson Chandler
Former Rank: 19
Analysis: He reminds me of Tyson Chandler out of high school in terms of skill set and size/athleticism, but just like Tyson, Ware will explode when he starts focusing on his big man skill set and IQ. The three-point shot is nice, but he should focus on his spot-up game and get rid of the off-the-dribble game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4UYTmyTEeI?version=3&rel=1&showsearch=0&showinfo=1&iv_load_policy=1&fs=1&hl=en-US&autohide=2&wmode=transparent]
23- BOBI KLINTMAN
Position: SF
Age: 20
Height: 6’11”
Weight: 225 lbs
From: Cairns Taipans (NBL)
16.9 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 1.5 APG, 2.0 SPG, 0.9 BPG
Pro Comparison: Kyle Kuzma
Former Rank: 21
Analysis: Klintman stands at 6’10” and has good size and athleticism. He is a floor spacer who shoots around 37% from behind the arc. He has good hands, good rebounding and shot-blocking skills. However, Klintman needs to work on his strength and finish inside. He also lacks toughness and struggles against physical competition. Despite his rough exterior, Klintman’s size, shooting and versatility make him an interesting player with some untapped potential.
24- ZACH EDEY
Position: C
Age: 21
Height: 7’4.25”
Weight: 306 lbs
From: Purdue
27.4 PPG, 13.8 RPG, 2.1 APG, 0.3 SPG, 3.0 BPG
Pro Comparison: Enes Freedom
Former Rank: 26
Analysis: Offensively, Edey excels at layups, putbacks, tips and post-ups. He would have been a great player to target in a center-heavy league back in the day. Edey is a terrific rebounder at 13 rebounds per game, but a lot of that is due to his size. The Purdue-product stands at 7’4, one of the tallest players in the NCAA, and he uses that size to his advantage. He spends most of his time in the paint, either waiting for the ball to come to him or hustling for a rebound.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMs7Ng_jO-k?version=3&rel=1&showsearch=0&showinfo=1&iv_load_policy=1&fs=1&hl=en-US&autohide=2&wmode=transparent]
25- DJ WAGNER
Position: PG
Age: 18
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 175 lbs
From: Kentucky
13.8 PPG, 2.4 RPG, 4.6 APG, 1.2 SPG, 0.7 BPG
Pro Comparison: Tyrese Maxey
Former Rank: 22
Analysis: He is a pure scorer with the ability to score from three positions and possesses a maturity beyond his years. Wagner has excellent ball-handling around the court and has a lot of movement with the ball. Similarly to Kentucky-teammate Dillingham, he possesses a quick crossover and has good burst and can penetrate the lane. He has a very advanced offensive feel and knows when to drive to the basket, pull up from midrange or use floaters and when to pass.
26- TERRENCE SHANNON JR
Position: SG
Age: 23
Height: 6’6.5”
Weight: 225 lbs
From: Illinois
23.2 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 3.8 APG, 1.1 SPG, 1.2 BPG
Pro Comparison: Hamidou Diallo
Former Rank: 23
Analysis: He comes and goes too often and the shooting hasn’t been consistent for a player with a label around shooting. He still has to refine his right hand and learn to play more consistently under control. He’s a good risk to end up as a backup, but for a guy with a moderate ceiling, his floor doesn’t feel higher than the average senior.
27- TIDJANE SALAUN
Position: SF
Age: 18
Height: 6’9”
Weight: 203 lbs
From: Cholet Basket (France)
15.4 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 1.2 APG, 2.0 SPG, 0.9 BPG
Pro Comparison: Obi Toppin
Former Rank: 24
Analysis: Tidjane Salaun has all of the tools to be an extremely successful NBA player. His athletic tools are the main selling point on him, and they give him massive upside. He is very quick and fast. He’s 6’9, but he has incredible speed. He can go from stopped to top speed so quickly, it makes him an incredible transition player.
Tidjane has a great vertical leap as well, he gets off the ground very quickly. He also has a great wingspan. He’s 6’9 with a 7’0 wingspan, and it might be even longer than that. His wingspan combined with his vertical jump gives him great tools to be an effective shot blocker in the pros. On top of that, he’s also a very fluid mover, moving gracefully and light on his feet. He has all the athletic tools I would want of someone his height outside of maybe more strength.

28- KYLAN BOSWELL
Position: PG
Age: 19
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 195 lbs
From: Arizona
12.9 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 4.8 APG, 2.1 SPG, 0.1 BPG
Pro Comparison: Derrick White
Former Rank: 28
Analysis: While Boswell doesn’t have great size for his position, he does have a very strong frame. He’s the type of player who could easily continue to build strength and have an NBA-ready body by draft day. Boswell has a smooth jumper, and he hit 39% of his threes last season. He has good mechanics and can shoot on the move, which is a very useful skill for him in the future.
When Boswell has the ball in his hands, he’s quick and agile. He can get to the rim and finish in the paint. One area of improvement for Boswell in his second year would be to draw fouls and get to the line more often. At 18, Boswell is a good pass-catcher, but he wasn’t a great assist guy in limited play.

29- ADAY MARA
Position: C
Age: 18
Height: 7’3”
Weight: 245 lbs
From: UCLA
11.9 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 2.6 APG, 0.5 SPG, 2.3 BPG
Pro Comparison: Zydrunas Ilgauskas
Former Rank: 29
Analysis: Right now, his game is pretty straightforward. He does a lot of big man stuff like rim protection, clean up and finishes, and he’s a vertical spacer, but what really stands out is his passing ability. He’s effective on short rolls and high post passes, and he has great vision from all positions. He’s mainly an interior scorer, but he’s shown flashes of being a shooter. His shooting is slow and flat, but he has good touch on free throws and floaters. We could see him become a better shooter from spot-ups depending on his work ethic.

30- KWAME EVANS
Position: PF
Age: 19
Height: 6’9”
Weight: 205 lbs
From: Oregon
12.9 PPG, 8.6 RPG, 2.8 APG, 2.7 SPG, 2.0 BPG
Pro Comparison: Josh Jackson
Former Rank: 30
Analysis: Evans has the ball skills to initiate offense or grab rebounds and go with them. He has great vision, so teams can play him off the dribble from a half-court position. When Evans has his feet set, he’s a solid spot shooter. He’s athletic, but there’s not much juice in his game. His massive wingspan does a lot to make up for it. Evans is great in passing lanes, and he has great timing as a shooter. He needs to add some muscle. Though those results will likely with time as he’s still young. His upside is enormous, and the lights are coming on.
