Five Free Agents the Steelers Should Target

With the NFL being in its quietest stretch of the offseason, several quality players remain on the free-agent market. As the Steelers continue to build a contending roster, it might be time to take a closer look at that pool of talent.

With training camp approaching, there could be a gem or two ready to compete for a spot. Here are five free agents the Steelers should consider targeting.

1. Jack Jones

Following his release from the Raiders, Jack Jones still has plenty to prove. Known for his aggressive play and past attitude issues, Jones appears to have matured.

In an appearance on the Pivot Podcast with Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor, and Channing Crowder, Jones acknowledged how quickly the game can be taken away and urged the younger player not to follow his mistakes.

On the field, Jones brings playmaking ability with his ball-hawking skills, totaling 7 career interceptions and 27 pass deflections. With the Steelers looking to add impact players in the secondary, he could be a strong fit.

Pittsburgh has veteran leadership to help bring out the best in Jones. Head coach Mike Tomlin, along with Minkah Fitzpatrick and Cam Heyward, could serve as steadying influences.

Tomlin is widely regarded as a players’ coach who knows how to manage personalities and foster growth. Playing under him could help revitalize Jones’ career and allow him to show other teams he’s matured.
