Barryn Sorrell has only been a Green Bay Packer for a few weeks, but he has already solidified himself as a fan favorite.
The Green Bay Packers drafted Sorrell with the 124th pick in Round 4 of the 2025 NFL draft. Sorrell is a 6-foot-4, 260-pound edge rusher from the University of Texas. While he has the potential to be a dominant game changer on the field, he’s already made an impact off the field. Barryn Sorrell is the very definition of what it means to be a Green Bay Packer.
Packer Fans Treated With Special Draft Surprise
Commissioner Roger Goodell customarily announces the first-round picks for the NFL Draft.
This year, Goodell had a big surprise for the Packers faithful. On the third day of the draft, the commissioner emerged from the tunnel to announce the Packers’ fourth-round pick. Shortly after, the fans were greeted with an even bigger surprise of a player greeting him on stage.
“We did not know that he was still there; that was not the reason we picked him, just some things are meant to be. Pretty cool moment for him and the organization as well.” The Packers’ director of football operations, Milt Hendrickson, explained.
When Sorrell was picked, he ran out of the tunnel and embraced Goodell in a massive hug. The Green Bay crowd was beside itself to see that there were still prospects here, and nonetheless, that Sorrel was amped up. Sorrell began to start Green Bay Packer chants and interact with the crowd, creating one of the most surprising and memorable moments in recent draft history.
“It sounds like he just paid his way here,” Hendrickson elaborated, “Just wanted to be a part of it… If that isn’t enough of an anecdote to tell you what kind of kid that is, I don’t know what else there is.”
Barryn Sorrell used his own hard-earned money and dedication to attend an event he did not even know if he would participate in. Sorrell had countless opportunities to turn tail and go back home defeated, but he did not. Sorrell stayed, and thank goodness he did. It paid off, and he created a lasting memory and a connection with one of the greatest fan bases in the world, all because he stayed.
The Green Bay Packers are the only publicly owned team in the NFL. They come from an extreme history of hard work and being the underdog. To be a Packer is to be loyal, dedicated, and more driven than anyone else. On Barryn Sorrell’s draft weekend, he exhibited all of those things.
Regardless of Sorrell’s stats or wins, he will always be a Packer favorite for his legendary draft pick and his true embodiment of the Green Bay Packer spirit.
