As WNBA preparations begin, the offseason grind ends. New York Liberty players have been participating in various leagues worldwide.

Staying in the States

Breanna Stewart has been playing for Unrivaled, a 3-on-3 professional basketball league.

Stewart co-founded the league with Napheesa Collier in 2023. She plays for Mist BC, one of the six teams in the league. Stewie averages 19.1 PPG and ranks fifth in the league in blocks (0.8 per game). The forward posted a double-double with 21 points and 12 boards in her last game against the Laces.

Betnijah Laney-Hamilton plays as a relief player for Laces BC in Unrivaled. She averages 15.5 points per game but dropped 23 in her 3-on-3 league debut. She will be out the remainder of the season due to injury.

Sabrina Ionescu also chose to play in Unrivaled. Due to her demanding schedule, she ended her season early this past week. Ionescu played for Phantom BC, averaging 17.8 points, 6.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. Ionescu still put up some impressive stats, given that she had UCL surgery at the beginning of the 3-on-3 season. She was the last athlete to commit to playing in Unrivaled because of the surgery.

Jaylyn Sherrod is developing her skills through Athletes Unlimited this season. Sherrod went undrafted in the 2024 WNBA draft and signed with the Liberty on weekly contracts until she was allowed to finish the season with New York. The point guard is taking the opportunity to play with WNBA stars to better her game and hopefully secure a spot on Liberty’s roster for the upcoming season.

Abroad in the Offseason

Marquesha Davis chose to spend her offseason in Asia. Davis plays for Shandong Sports Lottery, located in Penglai, China. Davis averages 12.7 points per game and has helped the Golden Stars rank second in their section.

Leonie Fiebich has been playing ball in Spain for Valencia BC. The German native averages 11 points per game for Los Ches.

Xu Han plays overseas in China for Sichuan Yuanda Meile BC. She averages 16.9 points per game and plays alongside her Liberty teammate Jonquel Jones.

French basketball player Marine Fauthoux averages 10.7 points and 6.1 assists per game in KBSL league play in Turkey for CBK Mersin. She had two back-to-back games with a season-high 23 points.

The Liberty Look Ahead

From short flights to Miami to a 7,000-mile ride to China, the Liberty players have been putting in the work. Across the roster, these players are looking to better their game for a second consecutive championship win for New York.
